This was my first wedding at The Fleece Inn, Barkisland, and what a great place for a wedding party! It may have rained all day, but we didn’t really notice, this wedding was filled with love and laughter from the word go. I knew it was going to be a fabulous occasion when I first met up with Nicola and Gareth last year. They wanted mostly natural photos, in-keeping with their relaxed attitude to the whole day.
I arrived in the morning at Nicola’s Mum’s house to be greeted by lots of excited faces and a family who are obviously very close and lots of fun! I was made to feel part of the family from the start and it was a pleasure to be there.
When the wedding party was ready we all headed of to the church, St Bartholomews at Ripponden, an imposing building right near a quaint bridge and even quainter pub! It’s a very picturesque setting even on a rainy day.
The service was lovely with readings from Nicola’s best friends, and entertainment from the children who were ultra-cute!
Afterwards we had time for just a few photos on the bridge by the church, then we set off on the short drive to the charming Fleece Inn, where the drinks reception was waiting for the newlyweds.
As the weather was bad we did the group shots inside, which was a lovely backdrop and there was plenty of time to get some natural pics too of the couple mingling with their guests.
The speeches followed, and they were brilliant! Nicola’s dad practically did a stand-up routine and got the whole place in stitches, not to mention embarrassing the bride on a few occasions!
After the meal we had a few minutes to go out and get some images of the couple together, in the rain, but that didn’t stop the smiles. We headed off complete with umbrella for a little walk just up the street and back, literally five minutes away from the party. There are sweeping views outside across the valley to capture, and the character of the Inn itself makes for a stunning backdrop for photos.
Then it was time to get the party started with the brilliant band The Saints, who had everyone on their feet all night!
