Thwaite Watermill, Leeds wedding photography

Thwaite Mills Watermill in Leeds was the historical setting for this very cool wedding

What a picturesque place Thwaite Mills Watermill is, and makes the perfect backdrop for wedding photography. Currently a museum, the water-powered mill is in full working order and sits on an island just outside of Leeds.

Everywhere you look is a photographers dream with the mansion house, heritage site, fields and cobbles. You really could get carried away!

There are two places where the ceremony can be held, my couple Alex and Simon chose the upstairs of the main watermill building. As you can see from the photos it’s so authentic and rustic with exposed beams and stonewalls, not to mention the machinery all around. I really was spoilt for choice for photo opportunities!

Alex arrived in her Dad’s vintage car, which added to the retro look and feel of the day. We made full use of the historical stone buildings and machinery that has been kept to give every aspect an authentic, industrial style.

The couple got married upstairs in the moody ceremony room, complete with cogs, chains and history which made for great backdrops to capture the emotional moments between the couple. Everyone then went across the cobbles to the smaller mill for drinks and canapes.
