Through the Lens: Capturing the Pulse of Live Music in Yorkshire (and Beyond)
There’s nothing quite like the electricity of live music—the bass you feel in your chest, the joy on a dancer’s face, getting lost in the moment. As I don’t play an instrument, I like to get up close and capture it all through my camera, oh and also dance, I can do both!
I’m a photographer based in Yorkshire, but originally from Manchester, don’t tell anyone where I live in Marsden! Growing up with music always on in the house, I used to pretend I was a DJ from 7 years old. The music that filled our house was anything with a rhythm that got you hooked immediately.
Now, I fill every moment checking out local gigs, whether it’s in the backroom of a pub or under the glare of festival lights.
Why Live Music?
Live music is raw, unpredictable, and alive—exactly what I thrive on. I don’t just shoot gigs. I move with them. I dance, I sing along, I catch the glances between bandmates and the moments when a singer locks eyes with the crowd. I want you to feel the music in every frame I capture.
It doesn’t matter if it’s punk, house, jazz, folk, metal, techno, or something unnameable—if it’s live, I’m there with a camera, a pair of dancing shoes, and a mission: to celebrate and amplify the artists and venues keeping our scene alive.
Promoting the Scene
My work isn’t just about the photos. It’s about giving a platform to the grassroots musicians, the community-run venues, the DIY promoters, and the dancers who make live music matter. I regularly collaborate with local acts, post their photos online, and help promote events that deserve a wider audience. From Huddersfield to Leeds, Bradford to York—and of course, back home in Manchester—my aim is to shine a light on what’s happening in the shadows of the mainstream.
What’s Next?
Right now, I’m planning a new photo series celebrating the dancefloor: a candid look at the joy, chaos, and community that comes with moving your body to live sound. Think sweat, glitter, movement, and emotion. If you’re a musician, promoter, or venue looking for someone who genuinely loves what you do and knows how to capture it—let’s talk.
Follow along for gig highlights, behind-the-scenes chaos, and the ever-growing gallery of moments that make live music so irreplaceable. Whether you’re a fellow music-head, a performer, or just someone who knows the magic of a good night out, you’re in the right place.
See you up the front.
