Rainy day wedding in York

Emily and Andrew had planned the most special wedding day at Sandburn Hall, and their attention to detail really paid off! Everything was perfect, they weren’t even put off by the rain or the double decker wedding bus breaking down!

We started the day at the nearby Claxton Grange cottages, which the bride and groom rented for the weekend for their guests. It’s a lovely setting and right near to Sandburn for the celebrations. The girls had a house to themselves for the mornings preparations, and the quaint cottages were the perfect backdrop for the photos. There was a very relaxed atmosphere in the girls and boys cottages, and it was a pleasure to be there with them flitting from one cottage to another!

Church ceremony

Once the bus had arrived and taken the guests over to the church at Sheriff Hutton, we all got into the wedding cars and travelled to the ceremony which was held at St Helen’s Church, a picturesque historic church, with the original interior. As Emily arrived the heavens opened, it literally bounced down! Not wanting to be late, our bride laughed it off and she and her Dad hurried into the church helped by the fabulous bridesmaids and groomsmen.

The ceremony was lovely and the character of the church really shone through. The vicar had everyone laughing and it was a relaxed celebration for the bride and groom. After the ceremony the rain had stopped and we managed to organise a rather spectacular confetti walkway for the newlyweds, I love this part of the day, everyone really enjoys throwing things at their friends!

Couple photo time

The newlyweds and I then dashed off to Sandburn Hall to get some photos on the panoramic driveway to the hall. We just had a few minutes to capture the special moment before the other guests started to arrive. A few minutes later we got word that the vintage bus had actually broken down and all the guest were stuck at the church! So we actually had a bit longer than we first thought, so we took the opportunity to get some photos of the room set upstairs in the barn. The oak framed function hall is breathtaking and had been stylishly decorated according to Emily and Andrew’s plan for the day.

The party carried on way into the night and the hall was a stunning place to hold the wedding breakfast and dancing much later on.

Congratulations Emily and Andrew, it was amazing!
